Dolphins Sign QB Brett Gabbert, Place CB Kader Kohou on Injured Reserve

Miami Dolphins Make Key Roster Adjustments Ahead of Preseason

The Miami Dolphins announced a pair of significant roster moves on Tuesday, signing quarterback Brett Gabbert and placing cornerback Kader Kohou on the injured reserve list.

The transactions come as the team continues to solidify depth and address injuries ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

Dolphins Re-Sign QB Brett Gabbert

Gabbert rejoins the Dolphins after previously spending time with the team during the offseason program. The undrafted rookie out of Miami (OH) initially signed with Miami on May 22, 2025, before being waived on July 22.

During his collegiate career, Gabbert started 53 games from 2019 to 2024, finishing with 10,814 passing yards, 80 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions. He completed 58.5% of his passes and added another eight touchdowns on the ground.

A three-time All-MAC selection and four-time Academic All-MAC honoree, Gabbert ended his college career ranked second all-time in touchdown passes and third in passing yards for the RedHawks. He is also the younger brother of NFL veteran quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

CB Kader Kohou Moves to Injured Reserve

As part of the roster shuffle, Miami placed cornerback Kader Kohou on injured reserve. Kohou has played a crucial role in the Dolphins’ secondary over the past three seasons, appearing in 47 games with 38 starts since joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2022.

In that span, he totaled 180 tackles (148 solo), three interceptions, 28 passes defensed, along with one sack, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

Kohou played his college football at East Texas A&M University (formerly Texas A&M–Commerce), where he stood out with five interceptions and 37 passes defensed over 44 games.

Looking Ahead

With Kohou sidelined and training camp underway, the Dolphins are expected to evaluate depth at both quarterback and cornerback positions as preseason action nears. Gabbert's return gives the team another developmental option behind the starting unit, while Kohou’s absence creates a key void in the defensive backfield.

Stay tuned for further updates as the Dolphins finalize their roster heading into the 2025 season.
