Nikki Beach Miami Beach is bringing back the legendary Penrod’s Beach Club, the iconic ‘80s and ‘90s hotspot that defined South Beach’s energy and party scene.On July 4, 2025, from 12 PM to 9 PM, the club returns to its original home at 1 Ocean Drive for a one-day only celebration filled with nostalgia, beach vibes, live music, and a special tribute to its visionary founder, Jack Penrod. A Historic Comeback
For those unfamiliar with its legacy: In 1984, Jack Penrod accepted the challenge to help Miami Beach reclaim its status as the “American Riviera.” By 1989, he and his future wife and business partner, Lucia Penrod, opened Penrod’s Beach Club—a 35,000-square-foot, three-story venue featuring a sports bar, nightclub, and beach volleyball courts.From a Bon Jovi beach concert to an artificial ski slope in Lummus Park and MTV Spring Break blowouts, Penrod’s became the beating heart of South Beach.
The Legacy of Jack Penrod and the Birth of Nikki Beach
Jack’s marketing genius—like importing sand and palm trees to cold northern cities in winter—sparked a tourism boom. His efforts didn’t just create a venue; they helped reimagine the city’s identity.After the tragic loss of his daughter Nicole in 1997, Jack and Lucia transformed the club into Café Nikki, a butterfly garden in her memory. That heartfelt tribute evolved into Nikki Beach in 1998—a lifestyle brand now present in 10 countries, built on the philosophy of “Celebrating Life.”
On April 17, 2012, Miami-Dade County honored his legacy by declaring it “Jack Penrod Day.” Following his passing earlier this year at age 85, the upcoming July 4th celebration will be hosted by Lucia Penrod as a powerful tribute to his vision.
